Jayda Smith and her River Ridge team mates got off to a 6-0 start to the season and are ranked second in this week’s Top 5 poll.

First games of the regular season for prep girls softball in the state of Florida have started up a couple weeks ago and we here at the Suncoast News want to give you the Pasco County reader all the insight you can get during the 2019 campaign. We will be doing a weekly Top 5 ranking of the teams within Pasco County. We now take a look at the Suncoast News Top 5 Prep Softball Poll heading into play this season.

1. Sunlake (6-0): The Seahawks are in their first season under the watch of new manager Phil Bell and Sunlake hasn’t missed a beat. Sunlake is currently ranked No. 2 in the state in Class 6A.

2. River Ridge (6-0): The Royal Knights have played in some close games but they have notched quality wins along the way. River Ridge has compiled good wins over Wesley Chapel, Land O’ Lakes and Pasco.

3. Mitchell (4-1): The Mustangs have only lost one game on the season and that was 9-0 against Cypress Creek. Outside of that lone loss, Mitchell has played well through five games.

4. Wesley Chapel (3-1): The Wildcats have bounced back nicely since their season opening loss 7-3 in nine innings to River Ridge. Since then, Wesley Chapel has ripped off three straight wins.

5. Cypress Creek (4-2): Cypress Creek is coming off a great 2019 campaign and the Coyotes have only dropped two games so far. The Coyotes have lost to Wesley Chapel and Berkeley Prep.
