BROOKSVILLE — The county announced Feb. 26 that is has reversed course and is not charging a $10 fee at the fishing pier parking area from sunset to sunrise at Bayport Park, 4140 Cortez Blvd., in Spring Hill.

The rate hike was planned to go into effect March 1.

Bayport Park, which sits at the mouth of the Weeki Wachee River, is a favorite spot to watch the sunset, with cars parking by the fishing pier and picnic table area at no cost for short periods to bid the day goodnight.

Citizens with handicap placards or hangtags may park at no cost at all Hernando County Park locations, as available. Annual passes are available for a reduced cost of $50 and can be purchased at the Hernando County Parks and Recreation Department Office at 16161 Flight Path Drive in Brooksville.
