Lou Charity, Aripeka’s resident historian and author, stands next to one of the old structures at the fish camp on the Pasco County side of Aripeka. The home, known as the McBee/Smith house, sits next door to what once was labeled the Babe Ruth cabin. But Charity believes it was the Osowaw Inn a mile north on the Hernando side of the county line where Ruth roomed, with the possible exception of the Babe crashing overnight at the camp because he was too tired or inebriated after a night of drinking and poker to make it back to the inn.
