DADE CITY — A health care concern is planning to build in Pasco County.
At the Dec. 20 County Commission meeting, Bill Cronin, the president and CEO of the Pasco Economic Development Council, asked commissioners to approve a $938,000 incentive package for Encompass Health Corporation, a provider of post-acute care rehabilitation service.
Prior to the Dec. 10 announcement, the Pasco EDC had referred to Encompass Health as “Project Artemis,” while negotiations with the health care company were under way.
Formerly known as Health South, Encompass Health, a publicly held company traded on the New York Stock Exchange, is based in Birmingham, Alabama. It provides both home- and facility-based health care services.
The 37,000-square-foot facility Encompass Health plans to build will be located within the Bexley Ranch Master Planned Unit Development, fronting Bexley Boulevard. The site is east of the Suncoast Parkway and north of State Road 54.
The building will house the company’s Central Business Office, which provides medical billing and collections services to Encompass Health hospitals in 25 states and Puerto Rico.
“This is another great testament to the local workforce,” Cronin said in a news release. “Encompass Health saw the value in their current workforce, and that Pasco could provide the appropriate talent pool for their future needs, we look forward to their continued growth and cultivating our relationship with them.”
Nationally, the company operates 133 hospitals, 245 home health locations, and 82 hospice locations in 37 states and Puerto Rico. Encompass Health was ranked as one of Fortune’s 100 Best Companies to Work For in 2019.
“Encompass Health is excited about relocating our Central Business Office to Pasco County. Our new facility will be tailored to meet our growing team’s needs and will offer new amenities for our employees,” said Diana Daerr, director of Encompass Health’s Central Business Office. “We appreciate the help of the Pasco County Board of County Commissioners for their support of our project and are excited to become part of the Bexley community.”
“We warmly welcome Encompass Health to Pasco County,” said Pasco County Commissioner Mike Wells. “Having a publicly traded leader in health care investing in our community is a great addition to our growing list of life science companies and I’m glad we were able to assist the company; they’re bringing a lot of good jobs to Pasco.”
Encompass plans to create approximately 179 full-time jobs at the Land O’ lakes area site, of which 117 will be the basis of a Pasco County Job Incentive request.
The $15 million project is projected to contribute $10.1 million to the Gross County Product, according to the Pasco EDC.
