Florida Hospital to serve 'Dinner with Docs'
PALM HARBOR -
Florida Hospital North Pinellas is serving dinner with a doctor — or eight — so bring an appetite and health-related questions.
As part of its Healthy Happenings series of public involvement efforts, the hospital will hold its inaugural “Ask the Experts: A Free Dinner with the Docs” event starting at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, March 28, at Innisbrook Golf and Spa Resort.
What makes this event special, said Christine Longley, the hospital's community outreach and volunteer services manager, is the array of doctors specializing in different fields that will be accessible in one location to the public — all at no cost.
“It's going to be wonderful, people love it,” Longley said, who has organized similar events while working in a similar capacity at the highly regarded Cleveland Clinic. “I have over 200 attendees already signed up not counting the doctors or vendors. We're really looking forward to it.”
After the registration, guests will be able to meet with hospital employees and various vendors and receive a blood pressure screening. At 6 p.m., guests will then be allowed to choose which of eight doctors they choose to dine with.
Dinner is followed by a panel discussion where all the specialists will answer questions from the audience.
“They come up with some pretty cool questions and they always like it because it's like a free doctor's visit,” Longley said of experiences at past events.
The eight doctors in attendance specialize in: emergency medicine; cardiology; urology; cardiothoracic, vascular and general surgery; podiatric medicine and surgery; anesthesiology; and internal medicine and geriatrics.
Longley said the response has already convinced the hospital that this will likely be a yearly event.
Reservations are required to attend Thursday's Ask the Experts event and can be made by calling (727) 943-3600.
