Marine Corps Pvts. Benjamin H. Wood, Colt L. Brink and Zachery J. Hilton and Pfc. Christopher R. Schalles all earned the title of United States Marines after graduating from recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, S.C. Wood, the son of Carmen A. Kim and David W. Wood, both of New Port Richey, is a 2012 graduate of J. W. Mitchell High School, Trinity. Brink is the son of Dondra L. Reichard of Hudson. He and Hilton both graduated Hudson High School in 2012. Schalles, a 2012 graduate of J.W. Mitchell High School, is the son of Theresa R. Greco of Port Richey and Richard R. Schalles of Land O Lakes.
Air Force Airman Tyler P. Vess graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio, Texas. Vess, a 2012 graduate of Hudson High School, is the son of Paul Vess III of Hudson. Navy Seaman Jacob E. Owens, son of Regina P. Di Virgilis of Spring Hill and Jason Owens of New Port Richey, completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill. Owens is a 2012 graduate of River Ridge High School, New Port Richey. Navy Seaman Victor A. Perez, son of Irma Gonzalez and Victor Perez, both of New Port Richey, is assigned to aircraft carrier USS John C. Stennis, which made its first stop in the U.S. at Joint Base Pearl Harbor following an eight-month deployment. While deployed, John C. Stennis Carrier Strike Group flew more than 11,500 sorties totaling 27,000 flight hours, and conducted community relation and service projects during port visits to Thailand, Malaysia, the Kingdom of Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, and the Republic of Singapore. Perez, who joined the Navy in July 2012, is a 2008 graduate of J.W. Mitchell High School, Trinity.
