Dollar General to open standalone NPR store as replacement

A standalone Dollar General store will replace the location that has been a fixture in the East Richey Square shopping center, across the street.

The new location will open Saturday, company officials announced this week. The site on the northwest corner with Congress Street will bear the address 6445 Massachusetts Ave. It sits diagonally across from its shopping center ancestor store at 6514 Massachusetts Ave.

The expansion push gives the discount chain, based in Goodlettsville, Tennessee, some two dozen locations in Pasco County.

Dollar General has shifted away from locations within shopping centers. Last year, many other standalone stores sprouted up along Ridge Road, Little Road, S.R. 52 and other sites to displace older stores within shopping centers.

Grand opening festivities are scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. Saturday, according to a press release from company spokeswoman Crystal Ghassemi.

Customers can expect special deals and prizes at the event. The first 50 adult shoppers will receive a $10 Dollar General gift card and the first 200 shoppers will receive a Dollar General tote bag, among other giveaways.

“Dollar General is committed to delivering a pleasant shopping experience that includes a convenient location, a wide assortment of merchandise and great prices on quality products,” Dan Nieser Dollar General’s senior vice president of real estate and store development, said in a press release.

The new location layout features seasonal products featured in the center of the store, easily recognizable departments with visible signage and coolers placed at the front of the store.

Dollar General gives customers more than everyday low prices on basic merchandise, executives emphasized. The chain is deeply involved in the communities it serves.

The Goodlettsville, Tennessee-based corporation has delivered value to shoppers for 75 years. With 11,300 stores in 40 states, Dollar General has more retail locations than any retailer in America. In addition to high quality private brands, Dollar General sells name-brand products from Procter & Gamble, Kimberly-Clark, Unilever, Kellogg’s, General Mills, Nabisco, Hanes, PepsiCo and Coca-Cola.
