HUDSON — The beige walls of Hudson Barbershop are lined with large, framed mirrors. In the near future, however, Serge Dhali plans to honor the barbershop profession with framed, historic photos and old barber memorabilia and tools of the trade.
Dhali took ownership of the barbershop at 7027 State Road 52 a year ago with his wife, Sarah. The owners are new but the barbershop is not. This week, the business is celebrating its 40th anniversary with an event that includes free haircuts and refreshments.
The barbershop is using its 40th anniversary to honor the traditions of its past and plans for its future. Hudson Barbershop will providecomplimentary refreshments and haircuts 4-8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 12. Members of the community will be treated to wine and cheese 5-7 p.m., as well as some insight into the Dhalis’ plans for the shop.
“I’m going to make it where we have a museum, per se,” Serge said. “There will be old barber items and memorabilia that way people can come get a haircut and see the history of barbering and how it’s evolved.”
Some of the items Serge is hoping to find for his collection include vintage clippers, old barber chairs and signs, and historic photos of barbers and barbershops that can be framed and hung on the walls.
“Every barbershop seems to have their thing and I’m a history major,” he said.
The Hudson Barbershop, which opened in 1973, still provides a classic razorblade shave.
In addition to preserving barber history in the shop, the barbershop has been newly renovated and will be adding laser therapy, waxing, manicures, pedicures and massage to their list of services in the near future.
Hudson Barbershop is at the northeast corner of U.S. 19 and S.R. 52. Hudson Barbershop and Salon welcomes men of all ages for a variety of classic services that pamper and style. Itcolors graying areas, trims ear and nose hair and shaves with hot lather.
