Golfer Nicole Felce turned in her latest impressive showing last week at the IJGA World Stars of Junior Golf Championship in Las Vegas.
The 14-year-old Holiday-area resident played above her age group in the Girls 15-18 category and shot a three-round score of 4-over 217. The effort tied her for third place with one other golfer among the field of 15.
“It was a great experience playing in the World Stars of Junior Golf Championship in Las Vegas,” Felce wrote in a text message the night after her final round on July 19. “I feel blessed that they permitted me to play in an older division and it was a great accomplishment to finish in the top three in that division.”
The IJGA World Stars of Junior Golf Championship is in its 10th year. Girls in the 15-18 age group played their tournament on the Mountain Course at Las Vegas’ Angel Park Golf Club. Playing an unfamiliar course in a different climate added to the challenge of last week’s tournament, Felce said.
“It took me a few practice rounds to get accustomed to the dry air and the conditions in Las Vegas,” she wrote. Nevada is very different than Florida. Actually, they are polar opposites. We played each round in 105-degree temperatures.”
Felce was tied for fifth entering the third and final round and shot a 70 – her best of the tournament – to climb back up the leaderboard.
“There were great competitors from many different countries,” she wrote. “Fortunately, I shot a 70 (-1) on the final day to lock up third place.”
