Spring football in Pasco County is finally here, and many teams around the county get a fresh start under new head coaches. Over at Pasco, the Jason Stokes era begins, as the former Gaither coach takes over the pride of Dade City.

Over at Anclote, former Gulf coach Jason Messamore takes over for longtime defensive coordinator-head coach Matt Kingsley. At Sunlake, the program’s second ever head coach steps in for the legendary Bill Browning, as former Seahawks’ assistant Trey Burdick now takes his turn.

Many programs are looking to remain on top amongst the county’s best, with Zephryhills, Zephyrhills Christian Academy, River Ridge, Mitchell and Wiregrass Ranch all vying to claim bragging rights to being Pasco County’s best club. We list each Anclote through Pasco and one thing they can work on this off-season.

Anclote: Getting the numbers up. The Sharks were limited due to injuries last fall and hopes are Messamore can get a few more kids out for football.

Bishop McLaughlin: Improving within the system. Coach Tico Hernandez just has to build upon what the Hurricanes did last fall. With Jay Fulmer back on staff, Bishop McLaughlin should be back on track.

Fivay: Find a replacement for Jayvon Wilson. Wilson’s ground production will have to be replaced and that will be the main focus for Matt Durchik and crew.

Gulf: Building a winning culture. It’s been a few years since Gulf has tasted winning and the Buccaneers will need to turn it around in Year no. 2 under Jason Grain.

Hudson: Building the player numbers up. Numbers have always been an issue at Hudson and under Tim Hicks, it hasn’t change. Talent is there at Hudson, but getting more players is the priority.

Land O’ Lakes: Continue high level of offensive play. First year under Chad Walker was a success. Can he prove that the offensive success wasn’t a one-year deal is the key in 2019.

Mitchell: Reload, not rebuild. The Mustangs are in the business of winning district championships and making the postseason. Mitchell will be playing within a new district with teams like East Lake and Sickles on the slate.

Pasco: Get back to playing Pirates football. Pasco was known to play winning football throughout the 2000s until just recently under former coach Tom McHugh. Jason Stokes’ job is to restore winning at Pasco.
