A collection of the top Suncoast high school softball teams will gather her this weekend to play in Palm Harbor University’s annual Lady Canes Spring Classic.

Sponsored this year by Oldsmar’s Falcon Electric, Inc., tournament’s 16-team field will play two days of softball at the Eddie C. Moore Complex, 3050 Drew St.

Thirteen of the 16 programs involved boast winning records and 2016 champion Chamberlain returns to defend its crown. The Chiefs are one of 10 Hillsborough County schools represented in this year’s tournament.

PHU will be joined in the field by fellow Pinellas County programs Countryside, East Lake, Pinellas Park and Tarpon Springs. Mitchell is this year’s lone Pasco County representative.

Tournament play will begin with all 16 teams going at it on multiple fields Friday evening. Games will resume Saturday morning and continue throughout the day until the championship game that night.
