Before the coronavirus outbreak called a halt to the 2020 prep softball season, River Ridge had gone 7-1.

Will high school sports return to the field this spring? Probably not, so the Suncoast News wants to give you, the Pasco County reader, all the insight you can get into the 2020 softball campaign, before the Covid-19 pandemic intruded. We now take a look at The Suncoast News Top 5 Prep Softball Poll.

1. River Ridge (7-1): The most recent game the Royal Knights played was a 19-1 thrashing of Gulf. River Ridge’s lone loss on the season came against Wiregrass Ranch 9-8. At the last time they played, the Royal Knights was one of the top teams in the area.

2. Sunlake (8-1): Despite a switch in bench managers from Nelson Garcia to Phil Bell, the latter has guided the Seahawks to continue their winning ways. The Seahawks are ranked amongst the state’s elites and only loss on the season game against Cypress Creek.

3. Wesley Chapel (6-3): The Wildcats’ three losses through nine games completed have come against River Ridge, Mitchell and Land O’ Lakes. Wesley Chapel was able to upend Cypress Creek amongst its six wins on the season.

4. Cypress Creek (5-3): The Coyotes nearly won a district championship last year but fell short. With the season now in doubt, Cypress Creek was well on its way to making another run when it came to districts.

5. Mitchell (6-2): The Mustangs started off the 2020 campaign a bit rough with a 9-0 loss to Cypress Creek. Only other loss they have is a 6-5 decision to Sunlake.
