Jacquez Mobley, number 16, is one of the two top receivers on a Pasco Pirates team trying to turn around recent losing seasons.

Prep football games started up a couple weeks ago around the state of Florida and we continue to take a closer look at teams around Pasco County. The next team we take a look at is Pasco High School, which is coming off a 3-7 campaign under Coach Tom McHugh. The Pirates head into the 2018 campaign looking to inch a little closer to the .500 mark, as they storied program has been down the last few seasons. McHugh, who has been to state semifinals and the postseason numerous times, has a youthful but talented group to work with. We take a closer look at Pasco in our ‘Around the county’ previews leading into prep football season.

Head coach: Tom McHugh

Last year’s record: 3-7

Last game: 39-33 loss against Wesley Chapel

Key returners: Desmin Green, Jacquez Mobley, Dorrian Robinson, Johnasay Grant, Cody Rand

SCOOP: After going 1-9 in 2016, Pasco was able to notch a couple more wins in 2017 but now are looking to take the next step in becoming a contender in Class 6A, District 6 amongst the likes of Mitchell, Springstead, Sunlake and Land O’ Lakes. The Pirates have a roster full of talent and it all starts at the skill position with quarterback Desmin Green. Green has shown the ability to be a viable dual-threat and has already turned some heads. He has two reliable targets to throw to in receivers Dorrian Robinson and Jacquez Mobley. Both are speedsters and could be amongst the top wideouts in Pasco County. Tom McHugh has his hands full in getting Pasco back to the playoffs, but he certainly will have ample talent to work with.
