Pasco County Boys/Girls Prep Basketball Top 5 Poll

Wesley Chapel retired former head coach Doug Greseth’s jersey recently.

Throughout the 2020-2021 regular season, we will do weekly rankings, news and notes on the prep basketball season in Pasco County. With the regular season now heading into the second half, we take a closer look at the teams. Here’s a look at this week’s Top 5 Pasco County Prep Basketball Poll.

1. Bishop McLaughlin (15-5): The Hurricanes made a statement with a 91-56 demolishing of neighboring Fivay. Bishop McLaughlin is definitively the top team in Pasco County.

2. Fivay (17-2): The Falcons had a rough go of it when they came up against the juggernaut that is Bishop McLaughlin. There’s nothing wrong with falling to the top team, as the Hurricanes are loaded.

3. Wiregrass Ranch (15-3): Wiregrass Ranch’s last loss came back on Jan. 12 against Tampa Berkeley Prep. Since then? Seven straight wins for the Bulls and counting.

4. Wesley Chapel (14-6): The retiring of former head coach Doug Greseth’s jersey was a nice touch by current lead man Marvin Gray. Greseth was the longtime head coach up until after last season.

5. Land O’ Lakes (12-8): The Gators are still playing good basketball late into the season, with a close loss to Fivay and a win over Wesley Chapel being a good indicators.

1. Wesley Chapel (16-4): Another chance to solidify their spot as the No. 1 team when they face a hot Bishop McLaughlin team. The Hurricanes have not lost a game this season.

2. Mitchell (17-6): The Mustangs have been one of Pasco County’s top girls basketball programs this season and they will roll into the postseason with nearly 20 wins.

3. Zephyrhills (18-7): Maybe a little bit too much? The Bulldogs routed Brooksville Central by the overwhelming score of 107-2. Whoa.

4. Fivay (15-4): Scott Love’s bunch is starting to peak at the right time heading into the postseason. His Falcons have reeled off five straight wins and look to make it six when they face Brooksville Central.

5. Bishop McLaughlin (9-0): This Hurricanes team has yet to lose a game this season and their last two games come against Wesley Chapel and Carrollwood Day School. Bishop has a chance to move up if they can beat Wesley Chapel.
