NEW PORT RICHEY- Winning state championships in girls weightlifting has been something River Ridge High School strives for year in and year out, with this season’s team being another strong contender.

The Royal Knights have won seven straight district championships heading into their Class 1A, District 12 meet last week. River Ridge ended up winning its eighth straight district championship and now heads into regional action with good momentum.

River Ridge and Zephyrhills both finished with 58 points, while Fivay places third with 50. Pasco (16), Gulf (15), Cypress Creek (11), Wesley Chapel (9) and Academy at the Lakes (3) rounded out the rest of the district results. Among those who came away with district titles from River Ridge were Kate Kirves, Alanna Yeo, and Sydney Stewart. There were three district runners-up on the Royal Knights’ squad, Ashley Cucchiara, Brooke Minichino, and Raynee Meek.

In addition, Brooke Cadle, Emilia Deniston, Cheyenne Rossman, Shannan Korovich, Aliyah Spinuso, Allie Santiago, Jenna Babinski, Alexi McCaffrey and Bri Anderson are headed to the regionals.

Fivay had themselves a very solid day lifting and will be sending several into regionals, with Karissa Brosnan and Mykayla Dossett both winning titles. Runner-ups from the Falcons were Isabel Martinez, Lia Figueroa, and Aaliyah Tejada. Anjolie Antonietti, Ash Jumper, Ariel Simonson, Melissa Vitiello, and Kaylie Lindsey all also qualified for districts.
