Fivay pitcher Gunnar Hoglund has committed to play college ball at the University of Mississippi.

HUDSON — The Falcon’s top pitcher from a year ago inked his name on the dotted line in his commitment to play on the next level after high school. Fivay pitcher Gunnar Hoglund signed with Ole Miss last week on Friday, thus ending his college recruitment heading into his final prep baseball season.

Hoglund was one of the top pitchers in Pasco County, as the Fivay ace struck out 86 batters and went 2-2 with an earned run average of 1.11. In his junior campaign, Hoglund was also effective at the plate and batted a respectable .305 with two home runs and 11 runs batted in.

Hudson defeats Weeki Wachee in bowl game

HUDSON — Consider Tim Hicks’ first season at the helm for Hudson a success after the former Lake Weir product led Hudson to a 6-5 record after defeating Weeki Wachee 57-35 in a wild shootout bowl game played Nov. 8.

The first-year coach led the Cobras to an improbable six wins after the football program overcame a very tumultuous off-season that saw three coaches have the title of head coach next to their name, with Hicks being the third. Running back Darius Smith rushed for a team-high 948 yards for Hudson.
