District tournaments for baseball start this week as the season winds down and heads into the postseason. Pasco County has the area’s lone undefeated team in Mitchell, who heads into their tournament with a record of 24-0. Land O’ Lakes is the other county district leader. We take a closer look at the districts that have Pasco County clubs.

Class 8A, District 4: Wiregrass Ranch (12-9) plays within this district with Wharton, Strawberry Crest and Freedom, with the Bulls heading into the district tournament as the No. 3 seed. They’ll face the Chargers in the district semifinals, in which the Bulls’ two meetings against them were decided by three runs.

Class 7A, District 10: This district is topped by Mitchell, whom is 24-0 on the season and 10-0 in district play. The Mustangs have a stranglehold in 7A-10 and will easily head into the tournament as the No. 1. Sunlake is 10-12 on the season and 4-6 in the district. Mitchell is the overwhelming favorite to win this district.

Class 6A, District 7: Land O’ Lakes has been playing tremendous baseball all season long and its 17-5 record speaks to that. The Gators head into the district tournament as the No. 1 seed with a district record of 9-1, the only loss coming against River Ridge 10-9 in an eight-inning affair. The Royal Knights certainly have the ability to knock off the Gators. Question is can they do it in coach Jack Homko’s final season to win a district title?

Class 5A, District 7: The one Pasco County club that has made some noise in this district is Cypress Creek, which is 16-8 on the season and tied with Brooksville Hernando for first place in the district. Fivay, Hudson and Gulf also play in the district but are towards middle and bottom half of the division.

Class 3A, District 4: By Bishop McLaughlin’s standards, the Hurricanes’ season has been solid with a record of 17-6 heading into district tournament play. The Hurricanes will have to contend with the likes of Lakeland Christian and Carrollwood Day for the district championship.

Class 2A, District 5: It’s been a tough season for Academy at the Lakes, with the Wildcats currently 4-14 on the season heading into the district tournament. The district’s No. 1 seed will be Seven Rivers Christian, whom is undefeated in district play.
