CLEARWATER – It took almost four minutes until a field goal fell for Clearwater, but the Tornadoes made up for missed opportunities later Friday night.

Clearwater went up on Largo by double-digits early in the second quarter on back-to-back Nirobi Peeler 3-pointers and never let the Packers back into the Class 7A District 9 game. The lead grew so large that Clearwater got the clock running midway through the fourth quarter before winning 68-34.

Peeler hit five of Clearwater’s eight 3s and the Tornadoes took full advantage of Largo’s 27 turnovers.

Friday’s victory allows Clearwater to keep pace with Boca Ciega at the top of the District 7A-9 standings. The Tornadoes’ lone league loss this season came at Boca Ciega on Dec. 12, a 62-44 setback. The Pirates hosted Northeast Friday.

Chris King joined Peeler in double-figures, adding 13 points. Max Jones and Gilbert Mendez each scored nine.

Raymond Collins led the Packers with 10 points and five rebounds.

Clearwater gets back at it tomorrow night, taking part in the St. Pete High Shootout. The Tornadoes will play St. Petersburg at 8:30 p.m.

Largo stays on the road for its next game Tuesday at Dunedin.
