The arrest came two days after the man eluded a deputy in the Regency Park neighborhood, an arrest report said.
At 12:20 a.m. Friday, a deputy who was hidden near a Lake Chrise Lane home saw Shawn William Culver, 42, 7814 Chalafonte Drive, cross the street, walk through the front yard of a home and into the side yard, an arrest report said.
Culver was attempting to break into the house when he was confronted, deputies said. Culver, who was wearing camouflaged pants and a gray shirt, ran from the deputy. A man seen on a surveillance camera during a previous break-in attempt was wearing the same outfit, deputies said.
Culver darted behind and between several homes in order to get away.
Culver was arrested at his home, which is less than one-half mile away from the attempted burglary.
According to deputies, Culver: Entered a Towanda Lane home on June 26 and stole a woman's purse and items from her living room as she slept; entered a home on Rainbow Lane March 15 and stole a woman's purse and items from her kitchen as she slept in her room; entered a Lakeside Lane home July 3 and stole a man's wallet as he slept; broke into a Marlinton Lane home July 17 and stole a woman's purse from her bedroom as she slept; and entered the lanai of a Lake Chrise Lane home June 30 but never went into the house.
Deputies said Culver is responsible for at least 20 similar burglaries in the area.
Culver remains in the Land O' Lakes Jail with charges of loitering or prowling, obstruction of an officer without violence, attempted burglary of an occupied dwelling, and four burglaries of an occupied dwelling.
Bail has been set at $100,300.
