Most of the time, U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson has been the lone political leader standing against oil drilling off Florida’s coasts. In doing so, Senator Nelson has put Floridians before self. He has almost single handedly saved Florida’s economy, its beaches, and its very existence as the unique state in our nation.
Yet, Gov. Rick Scott, his “Drill, Baby, Drill” colleagues, and the Florida Chamber of Commerce say Bill Nelson has done nothing. All Sen. Nelson has done is save Florida for them and the rest of us. Thank you, Sen. Nelson.
Your May 9 editorial on the Florida Supreme Court’s ruling on red light cameras said that the question remains as to whether the cameras “aren’t primarily just another way for government to make money.” I believe they have been a boon to traffic safety.
To and from work for many years, I drove through the US 19-Ridge Rd. intersection, and hardly a day went by without some motorist blowing through a red light. Could anything be more dangerous?
In the years since installation of red light cameras, I’ve seen one car go through on red.
Gov. Rick Scott is running for the U.S. Senate, and part of his platform is imposing term limits on the U.S. House and Senate. Yet he has been governor for two terms, which is a term limit.
So, how is he removing himself from the phrase he uses in describing out current U.S. House and Senate members, “career politicians”?

Thank you for Marty Moore’s “Attack of the Dust Bunnies” column. I am ashamed that we have a president with a fourth-grade mentality and is a bully and an ego-driven jerk.
I’m just hanging in until he’s gone. Scandal after scandal. I’ll take boring anytime over the mess he has made in just 14 months.
