NEW PORT RICHEY – The New Port Richey Police Department released surveillance video footage of last week’s fatal, officer-involved shooting at Sullivan’s Boulevard Lounge.
Investigators released the footage Monday afternoon. It’s 23 seconds long and shows New Port Richey Police officers entering the front door and confronting the male suspect. The suspect, identified as 56-year-old Guy Bradly Able, can be seen holding up his left hand toward officers as they have their weapons drawn. Suddenly he raises his right arm at the officers pointing a handgun at them. The officers open fire, causing the Able to drop to the floor.
The shooting occurred last Tuesday afternoon at the downtown New Port Richey establishment, located just south of Main Street at 6212 Grand Boulevard. According to New Port Richey Police Chief Kim Bogart on the day of the incident, the department received the call from the bar and restaurant at about 12:10 p.m.
"The call was related to an unwanted guest," Bogart said in a phone interview last Tuesday. "Someone was in the bar and threatening patrons to shoot them. He didn’t display a firearm at that time, but was threatening them, so they wanted him removed from the bar."
"Our officers got there and when they went to go in, they saw the subject," Bogart continued. "His actions at that time prompted them to … they ultimately had to shoot him at that time. He has since died."
A multi-agency investigation that includes the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and the state attorney’s office remains ongoing.
The video shows two New Port Richey Police officers entering Sullivan’s, though it was not specified exactly how many offers responded and were directly involved in the incident. Bogart said they were placed on administrative leave during the investigation.
