BROOKSVILLE — The Florida Highway Patrol is seeking information on an SUV that caused a dump truck to crash on State Road 50 early Wednesday morning, closing the highway for several hours.

Troopers say the eastbound dump truck ended up on its side around 5:30 a.m. on July 10 after it swerved to avoid hitting the SUV headed on S.R. 50 near Richloam Clay Sink Road, east of U.S. 301. The SUV was in the eastbound lane of S.R. 50 while illegally passing several other westbound vehicles that were traveling on a curve in the highway, according to the FHP.

When the driver of the 1998 Mack dump truck swerved to avoid the SUV, the truck overturned, spilling its load of limestone gravel over the highway. Following the crash, S.R. 50 was closed for several hours between U.S. 301 and S.R. 471, troopers said.

Anyone with information about the crash and the SUV involved can contact the Highway patrol by calling 813-558-1800 or *FHP.
