PORT RICHEY – Florida Highway Patrol arrested a 19-year-old motorcyclist involved in a Dec. 5 hit-and-run accident that killed a 7-year-old boy.
According to reports, the incident occurred in a residential area near the intersection of Regency Park Boulevard and King Arthur Drive. The child was walking westbound across Regency Park Boulevard with his mother and siblings as a motorcycle operated by Shaun Elliott Wyrich was traveling northbound at a high rate of speed. After colliding with the child, reports state the Wyrich, a Port Richey resident, fled northbound on Regency Park.
The child died after being transported to an area hospital.
A day after the accident, Dec. 6, Wyrich went to the Port Richey Police Department to turn himself in to Florida Highway Patrol Troopers. Wyrich was taken to the Pasco County Jail and charged with leaving the scene of a crash involving a death and for not possessing a motorcycle endorsement.
The motorcycle involved in the crash was recovered at a residence on Fox Hollow Drive, just north of the scene of the crime.
