ARIPEKA — The Race the Bay Half Marathon, 5K and Fun Run couldn’t have been held in better weather, as hundreds of runners launched from SunWest Park in Hudson in the cool air early Sunday morning, Dec. 2.

The 13-mile course ran to Aripeka Road, where runners headed toward the Gulf on a blocked-off northbound traffic lane. The run continued through the picturesque fishing village of Aripeka, north along the coast and into Hernando County, before it was reversed back to the Pasco County park.

With runners divided into several age groups, the event awarded winners in 12 categories, and there was a roll-stroller fun class. Each finisher of the half marathon received a custom Bourbon and Bowties half marathon bracelet or key chain, a Dry-Tec shirt, goodie bag and custom-designed medal. Finishers of the 5K got T-shirts, a goodie bag and finishers medals.

After the race, there was music and food at SunWest Park, where runners could catch their breath on the white sand beach at the popular water sports park.
