PORT RICHEY — Gulf View Square has been closed Wednesday morning by a suspected gas leak.
Pasco Sheriff’s Office and Fire Rescue personnel have been at the entrances to the mall on U.S. 19 turning away vehicles trying to enter the parking lot.
According to Pasco Fire Rescue, mall security personnel called 911 to report the odor of gas within the mall. After arriving at Gulf View Square, Fire Rescue personnel confirmed the presence of gas inside the indoor retail center, ordered employees and customers to evacuate and began venting gas from inside the mall.
Fire Rescue is attempting to discover the source of the leak and has asked the Tampa Fire Department for help in venting the mall.
In addition, the company that provides gas service to the mall had been summoned to shut off the flow, Fire Rescue said.
There have been no reports of injuries, Fire Rescue said.
Employees standing under shade trees at the edge off the mall parking said the odor of gas was detected Wednesday morning at the northern end of the mall.
