UPDATE: Florida Highway Patrol troopers located and took possession of a 2007 GMC SUV suspected of being involved in a fatal hit-and-run.
The vehicle was located at a home in Spring Hill. Troopers have communicated with a person of interest and the investigation remains on-going as of Friday evening.
SPRING HILL – A pedestrian was struck and killed late Thursday night or early Friday morning on Bowman Road, west of U.S. Route 41.
A more accurate time estimate of the accident is unknown to Florida Highway Patrol troopers because the vehicle responsible for the 49-year-old New Port Richey man's death did not stay at the scene.
According to FHP reports, the vehicle that struck the victim is suspected to be a pickup truck. No reason was provided for that presumption, however.
It's believed the victim was walking westbound near or on the white fog line of Bowman Road, west of U.S. 41. At some point, the driver failed to see the victim and the right front of the vehicle made impact.
The accident propelled the victim to final rest in the north grass shoulder west of the collision area.
The suspect left the scene without aiding the victim or leaving proper information required by law.
The victim was pronounced dead on scene at 8:56 a.m., Friday.
