WEEKI WACHEE — The end of summer may be approaching, but Hernando County won’t let it end without a bang.

On Sept. 1, Linda Pedersen Park will be the scene of the Summerfried and Countryfied Festival. The one-day family-friendly event is designed to bring the community together in a festive atmosphere

Best of all, proceeds benefit the Florida Sheriffs Youth Ranch family services nonprofit organization.

Jimmy McKittrick, marketing director for Terlep Chiropractic and one of the event’s main coordinators, said the prime motivation behind Summerfried and Countryfied is to create regular events that keep residents in the county.

“We don’t need to go outside for entertainment anymore,” McKittrick said. “Hernando County has so many beautiful venues.”

Linda Pedersen Park will be overtaken by local country and southern rock artists who will take the stage. Hand-picked food trucks will offer “savory southern flavors”. And vendors with unique wares will be onsite.

Also planned is a kid-friendly zone with bounce houses and activities along with fun for everyone. Fried chicken-eating, pie-eating, corn hole, trivia and summer Olympics are among the activities planned.

The event begins at 2 p.m., with opening acts taking stage at 3 p.m., and extends until 11 p.m. Entertainment lineup includes: Pirate Flag, a Tribute to Kenny Chesney; Bearded Brothers Band; Will Erickson and the Wreckage; Chad Montana Band; JT Curtis and the Florida Scoundrels; Skyler Clark; and Angie Rey & the Countrydelics.

General admission is $20 at the gate or $15 in advance. Children 12 and under are admitted free.
