Last chance to vote at art gallery

NEW PORT RICHEY - Today will be the last day for members of the community to cast their votes on their favorite piece of art at the Downtown New Port Richey Art Gallery's annual "Member's Show," which runs through July 27. "This is for the people who come through here get to participate and really get to look at the artwork and choose their favorite piece," said gallery director Nancy Ciesla. "Most of the time visitors come through and just look and think the art is nice, but this gives them an opportunity to really look closely and make a decision on what they like best. It's giving them an active part in the exhibit."The Downtown New Port Richey Art Gallery, formerly named the Progress Energy Art Gallery, usually has monthly-themed art exhibits but this is the seventh year that art gallery members get to display the art they best feel represents themselves, regardless of theme. While this particular exhibit only showcases the art of current members, anyone in the community can come in and show support for local artists by casting a vote on their favorite piece. The winners will be awarded with ribbons and prizes during the First Friday Artist Reception on Aug. 2 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the gallery, which is located at 6231 Grand Blvd. in downtown New Port Richey. All ages are welcome to cast votes, children included, and most of the artwork is for sale."Young children are able to look at and really make a conscious decision about what piece they like and why they like it," Ciesla said. "It gets people talking about the art."Visitors to the gallery, will be able to take in exhibits created within a wide variety of media, including mixed media, painting with oils, acrylic and watercolors; sculpting, photography and more.
