WEEKI WACHEE — Who says swamps aren’t fun? If you doubt that, just turn out for the annual Weeki Wachee Swamp Fest, to be held March 6-8.
The much anticipated food, music and fun weekend is held at Linda Pedersen Park, 6300 Shoal Line Blvd., and draws several thousand visitors.
Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for youngsters ages 6 to 12. Children 5 and under are free.
The festival runs from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. March 6 and 7, and from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. March 8. More information is online at www.swampfestweekiwachee.com.
The event has grown form a small, community fundraiser to a mammoth annual event. It is staged to support the Weeki Wachee Crime Watch and the Weeki Wachee Area Club.
Several musical acts will appear during Swamp Fest 2020, including Jenny & The Stray Dogs Band, Eddie McConnell, the Blackstone Hill Band, Shadow Ridge Band and JoJo & The Jenerators among others.
Vendors will display and sell arts and crafts, as well as a large selection of eats and drinks. One of the most popular events is the Swamp Monster Contest, which pays cash prizes to the best swamp monster costume in adult and child categories. The entry form is on the website.
There also is a T-shirt design contest for adults and children, who will create the official mascot monster for the 2020 event, with prizes to the top three designs. There also will be prizes and drawing winners over the weekend, with prizes donated by area businesses.
