BROOKSVILLE – A two-vehicle accident on U.S. Highway 41 Tuesday morning left one woman and a child in serious condition.

According to Florida Highway Patrol reports, the accident involved a sedan driven by a 76-year-old Brooksville woman and an SUV carrying five people.

The sedan was traveling northbound on U.S. 41 in the left-turn lane at approximately 11:20 a.m., Dec. 22. The sedan was approaching a yellow flashing turn arrow at Powell Road as the SUV was traveling southbound on U.S. 41 in the center lane, approaching a solid green traffic signal.

Reports state that the sedan turned left into the path of the SUV, causing the SUV to hit the front right side of the sedan. After the impact, the sedan rotated to a final rest within the intersection. The SUV was redirected southwest and collided with a utility pole before coming to a final rest.

The driver of the SUV, a 37-year-old Brooksville woman, and a 7-year-old male passenger suffered serious injuries. The three other SUV passengers – a 32-year-old New Port Richey woman, a 9-year-old girl and a 6-year-old girl – reported minor injuries.

The 76-year-old female driver of the sedan suffered minor injuries, the FHP reported.
