WESLEY CHAPEL – A 79-year-old female motorist was killed and five others were injured, two seriously, in a two-vehicle accident in Wesley Chapel on Jan. 13.

According to Florida Highway Patrol reports, the wreck occurred at about 9:10 p.m. at the intersection of State Road 56 and Meadow Pointe Boulevard, east of the Shops at Wiregrass.

Reports state that a sedan driven by a 27-year-old Zephyrhills man and carrying four passengers was traveling eastbound in the outside lane of S.R. 56, approaching Meadow Pointe Boulevard. Another sedan, driven by the 79-year-old Wesley Chapel woman, was traveling southbound on Meadow Pointe, approaching the intersection with S.R. 56.

At the intersection, FHP reports state, both vehicles entered under an unknown color traffic signal. This caused the front of the sedan driven by the 27-year-old man to strike the right side of the 79-year-old woman’s vehicle. The impact caused both vehicles to rotate. The 27-year-old man’s sedan came to a final rest within the intersection and the 79-year-old woman’s vehicle ended up on the east shoulder of the roadway.

The 79-year-old woman died after being transported to an area hospital, the report states.

The 27-year-old man and a 3-year-old female passenger were listed in serious condition. The three other passengers – a 19-year-old male, 23-year-old female, and 1-year-old male – reported minor injuries.
