New Port Richey’s Free Concert Series continues Saturday at Sims Park with Simply Tina, a tribute band celebrating the music of Tina Turner.

NEW PORT RICHEY – Last month, guests to Sims Park were singing along to the music of the Piano Man. This weekend they’ll be boisterously asking, “What’s Love Got to Do with It?”

The New Port Richey Parks and Recreation Department’s Free Concert Series continues at 7 p.m., Nov. 9, with Simply Tina, a tribute group celebrating the music of Tina Turner. The series’ 2019-2020 schedule kicked off in October with music from Turnstiles, a Billy Joel tribute band.

The Simply Tina band, based in South Florida, features Karena Korokous transforming herself on stage into Tina Turner for the performance. According to the band’s website, the group prides itself on bringing a high-energy show that includes professional stage presence and a “dynamic concert-style rock ’n’ roll show.”

Turner, 79, a native of Tennessee who began performing in 1958, now lives in Switzerland. Her life is the subject of a musical now in previews on Broadway.

Saturday’s concert will feature lighting effects, backup dancers and audience participation.

The New Port Richey Free Concert Series are open to the all ages. Light refreshments and snacks will be available for purchase on site from various local businesses.

Limited seating is available at the Sims Park Amphitheater and guests are permitted to bring lawn chairs and blankets. Pets on leashes are permitted in Sims Park but bringing animals to the concerts is not recommended.

The concert series promotes one concert per month until April. The final performance of 2019, following Simply Tina, will be by Gary West, a Johnny Cash tribute performer, on Dec. 21.
